Oregon CDL practice test
Getting a commercial driver's licence in Oregon starts with the CDL knowledge tests. The content is federal: every state, Oregon included, writes its tests from the FMCSA CDL manual, so the general knowledge test has 50 questions, the endorsement tests have 20 to 30, and the passing score is 80% on each. Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services administers the test; the rules behind it are published by the FMCSA. Try the free Oregon CDL practice questions below, then pick a full test.

On a truck with air brakes, the parking brake control is usually:
Answer: C. A yellow, diamond-shaped knob that you pull out to set the brakesPulling the yellow knob out lets the air out of the spring brake chambers and the springs apply the brakes. Pushing it in releases them. Older vehicles may use a lever instead.

The modulating control valve found on some vehicles lets you:
Answer: D. Apply the spring brakes gradually with a hand lever, for example if the service brakes failThe further you move the lever, the harder the spring brakes apply. It is spring-loaded so you can feel the braking, and it can be locked in place to hold the vehicle parked.

A separate air tank connected to a 'dual parking control valve' is used to:
Answer: A. Release the spring brakes so you can move the vehicle a short distance in an emergency after main air pressure is lostWhen main air pressure is lost, the spring brakes come on. Some vehicles, such as buses, have a separate air tank and a second valve that is spring loaded in the out position. Push it in and air from the separate tank releases the spring brakes so you can move; let go and they come on again. There is only enough air to do this a few times, so plan carefully.

Antilock brakes (ABS) have been required on truck tractors with air brakes built on or after:
Answer: C. March 1, 1997Tractors needed ABS from March 1, 1997, and other air-brake vehicles such as trucks, buses, trailers, and converter dollies from March 1, 1998. Many older vehicles have been retrofitted.

Does ABS shorten your stopping distance?
Answer: D. Not necessarily; its job is to help you keep control and prevent wheel lockupABS senses wheels about to lock and reduces pressure to those wheels. That keeps you from skidding and losing steering control, but you should still drive and brake as if the vehicle had no ABS.

How the Oregon CDL knowledge test works
You take the general knowledge test first; it is required for every CDL class. Class A drivers add the combination vehicles test. Almost everyone takes the air brakes test, because skipping it puts an air brake restriction on the licence. Endorsements (hazmat, tanker, doubles/triples, passenger, school bus) each have their own knowledge test. Pass the tests and you hold a commercial learner's permit; the skills test in a truck comes later.
Fees, appointment rules and test centre locations are set by Oregon; the current ones from Oregon DMV are in the next section. What does not change is the content, and that is what PassRig drills.
