Michigan CDL practice test
Getting a commercial driver's licence in Michigan starts with the CDL knowledge tests. The content is federal: every state, Michigan included, writes its tests from the FMCSA CDL manual, so the general knowledge test has 50 questions, the endorsement tests have 20 to 30, and the passing score is 80% on each. Michigan Department of State administers the test; the rules behind it are published by the FMCSA. Try the free Michigan CDL practice questions below, then pick a full test.

In an emergency, what can you usually do more quickly: stop or turn to avoid an obstacle?
Answer: C. Turn; you can almost always turn to miss an obstacle faster than you can stopStopping takes a long distance at highway speed. A quick steering move is often the better choice, as long as you keep both hands on the wheel and do not turn more than needed.

An oncoming driver has drifted into your lane. The best move is usually to:
Answer: D. Steer to the rightMoving right keeps you away from oncoming traffic. If the other driver recovers, you are still on your own side, and the shoulder is usually a better escape route than the opposing lane.

If you must leave the road to avoid a crash, you should avoid braking until your speed has dropped to about:
Answer: A. 20 mphBraking on a soft shoulder or dirt can cause a skid or rollover. Keep one set of wheels on the pavement if possible, stay off the brakes until you are down to about 20 mph, and then brake gently.

You left the road to avoid a crash and must return to the pavement before you can stop. You should:
Answer: B. Hold the wheel tightly, turn sharply enough to get right back on the road, then counter-steer as soon as both front tires are on the pavementDo not try to edge gradually back onto the road; your tires might grab unexpectedly and you could lose control. Hold the wheel tightly and turn sharply enough to get right back on the road, then counter-steer immediately when both front tires are on the paved surface. Think of it as a single steer-countersteer move.

Your hydraulic brakes fail while driving. Which of these actions can help?
Answer: C. Downshift, pump the brake pedal, and use the parking brake while finding an escape routeDownshifting lets the engine slow you. Pumping may build enough hydraulic pressure to stop. The parking brake works on a separate system, so hold the release so you can let off if the wheels lock, and look for an uphill road or open field to stop in.

How the Michigan CDL knowledge test works
You take the general knowledge test first; it is required for every CDL class. Class A drivers add the combination vehicles test. Almost everyone takes the air brakes test, because skipping it puts an air brake restriction on the licence. Endorsements (hazmat, tanker, doubles/triples, passenger, school bus) each have their own knowledge test. Pass the tests and you hold a commercial learner's permit; the skills test in a truck comes later.
Fees, appointment rules and test centre locations are set by Michigan; the current ones from Michigan SOS are in the next section. What does not change is the content, and that is what PassRig drills.
Michigan CDL fees and rules

Study from the state's own book: Michigan Commercial Driver License Manual. PassRig's questions are written from the same FMCSA manual it is based on.
