An air brake system is really three braking systems combined. They are the:
Answer: A. Service, parking and emergency brakesThe service brake system applies and releases the brakes when you use the brake pedal in normal driving. The parking brake system applies and releases the parking brakes with the parking brake control. The emergency brake system uses parts of both to stop the vehicle if the brake system fails.

The air compressor governor stops the compressor pumping ("cut-out") at about:
Answer: C. 125 psiThe governor controls when the compressor pumps air into the tanks. When tank pressure rises to the cut-out level, around 125 psi, the governor stops the compressor pumping. When pressure falls to the cut-in level, around 100 psi, it lets the compressor start again.

The low air pressure warning must come on before pressure drops below:
Answer: C. 55 psiA warning you can see, usually a red light, must come on before tank pressure falls below 55 psi. A buzzer may also sound, and some vehicles use a wig wag arm. Older manuals and some state tests still say 60 psi. Either way, when the warning comes on, stop and park safely right away while you can still control the brakes.

Spring brakes usually apply by themselves when air pressure falls to about:
Answer: B. 20 to 45 psiPowerful springs hold the brakes on; air pressure holds them off. Once pressure drops into the 20 to 45 psi range, the springs win and the brakes come on fully, whether you want them to or not.

Why should you drain the air tanks every day?
Answer: B. To remove water and compressor oil that collect in the tanks and can freeze or damage the brakesCompressed air usually has some water and some compressor oil in it. Both collect in the bottom of the tanks, and the water can freeze in cold weather and cause brake failure. With manual drain valves, drain the tanks completely at the end of each day of driving. Automatic drains expel the water and oil for you.

How the New Jersey CDL knowledge test works
You take the general knowledge test first; it is required for every CDL class. Class A drivers add the combination vehicles test. Almost everyone takes the air brakes test, because skipping it puts an air brake restriction on the licence. Endorsements (hazmat, tanker, doubles/triples, passenger, school bus) each have their own knowledge test. Pass the tests and you hold a commercial learner's permit; the skills test in a truck comes later.
Fees, appointment rules and test centre locations are set by New Jersey; the current ones from NJ MVC are in the next section. What does not change is the content, and that is what PassRig drills.
